Sunset Resort is an amazing place to stay! It is the perfect location on the river, allowing for access to Voyagers National Park, Ash River Falls, and awesome stargazing. They provide many things: kayaks and canoes to explore the river, dock spots, boat rentals, and a fish house for cleaning your fish after a great day on the lakes. We've been staying here for years and love it!

We rented a canoe from them for a backpacking trip into Voyageurs and they were wonderful. The pricing was really good, staff very friendly and helpful, and the location is a good place to launch straight from to paddle into the park. And when we returned, there was an option for showers for a reasonable fee and even a washer/dryer we took advantage of to prepare for the next part of our trip. I would highly recommend!

We spent four nights at the Sunset Resort on Ash River Trail, north of Orr, MN and south of International Falls, MN. We stayed there specifically because of its proximity to the Ash River Visitor Center of Voyageurs National Park. There are four Voyageur National Park Visitor Centers, Ash River, Crane Lake, Kabetogama Lake, and Rainey Lake. Sunset Resort is centrally located to all four. Both Crane Lake and Rainey Lake are roughly an hour drive. Kabetogama Lake is 20 minutes and downtown International Falls is about 45 minutes. Sunset Resort is not really an RV resort, it is a fishing resort. During our stay, we were the only non fishing residents. All of the folks that we met during our stay were friendly and polite. The resort is quiet and peaceful and it suited our needs perfectly. We had a full hookup site that accommodated our class A RV without any issues. There is a camp store but because we were staying there early in the season, it was not fully set up. There is a store at the intersection of US53 and Ash River Trail that has fuel, groceries, and fishing supplies. Sunset resort has no WiFi, and no cable TV and there is no off-air TV reception. Better have a satellite dish and some sort of Internet connectivity if you require this. We used a hot spot on a cell phone for Internet. Cell service for AT&T was rock solid, Verizon service was poor to non existent. There are no playgrounds or any kid friendly amenities unless your kids like to fish! And this is Minnesota, so be prepared for mosquitos and bring plenty of bug spray, the higher the DEET content the better. The grounds are well maintained and we felt that the price was reasonable. We have no complaints, we had a good time, and would come back again if we were in the area.

We pulled our camper, my brother rented a cabin. Beautiful location, right on the river. Very quiet area. Walking distance to bar/restaurant, and ice cream up the road. They allowed us to bring kayaks to the Kabetogama Lake. Very nice people. Cabin 12 could use some TLC. Dead bug on the bed, bed was broken, room was stinky, coffee pot was gross, and there is a spot in the bathroom wall where you can see into the men's bathroom on the other side. Which means they can also see into the bathroom of the cabin.

We did not stay here but rented a canoe for the day. It was the best price by far - we paid $20 while others in the area advertised $50-$100. The owner was extremely friendly and keeps the rental price low on purpose. There were restrooms behind the main building that we were able to use before heading out on the river. It's not fancy but it does the job.

Our stay at Sunset Resort was extremely pleasant. The resort is situated along the Ash River in a very cosy, plesant and calm setting, away from the noise of speedboat or house boats. Our host Missy was very helpful. A detailed letter was sent to us during the accomodation booking process which provided the specifics of the property and what to expect. It really helped us in planning our trip. The cabin was very neat and clean. It was pretty big for the size of a cabin for 2 people. There are free kayaks and canoes available for resort guests.

What an amazing experience, we were not even guest and he went above a beyond to make sure we had a great vacation, best price Canoes rentals anywhere within 2 hours of Voyager National Park. If you're looking for a place where you know your satisfaction is guaranteed and have people who go above what you expected then this is the place for you. We are so grateful for everything, thank you so much and definitely recommend.

Absolutely loved this place! We came of age family gathering in July. John and Missy are so friendly. We stayed in lodge #1 and had nine people in there. There is a kitchen, two bathrooms, and five bedrooms. We rented a boat for two days and John gave us all sorts of places to see. He took time to make sure our needs were met. They also have free canoes and kayaks you can use.
